Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully identified the main features of the data and provided a clear overview. You included specific data points for both men and women across all age groups, which satisfies the requirement to report on the main features and make comparisons. However, the response is essentially a list of figures rather than a cohesive analytical summary. To improve, focus on grouping the data by trends (e.g., identifying which age groups showed the highest or lowest participation) rather than simply listing the percentages for each category. This would demonstrate a more sophisticated level of data synthesis and meet the requirements for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organised into three paragraphs, which is appropriate for this task. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'by contrast', and 'On the other hand' to signal transitions. However, the progression of ideas within the body paragraphs is somewhat mechanical, as you simply list the data points sequentially. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using more varied linking phrases to connect the comparisons between men and women more fluidly. The paragraphing is logical, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks sophisticated cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite repetitive. You rely heavily on phrases like 'percentage of' and 'age group', which are necessary but could be varied with synonyms such as 'proportion', 'demographic', or 'bracket'. There are some minor errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'did regularly physical activity activity' (a repetition error) and '15 to 24 age men' (which should be 'men aged 15 to 24'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the information, it lacks the range and precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include '15 to 24 age men who did regularly physical activity activity was 52.8%', where the subject-verb agreement and word order are problematic. Additionally, there are issues with punctuation and missing articles, such as 'in 15 to 24 years old' instead of 'in the 15 to 24 age group'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to suggest a lack of control over more complex grammatical structures.
