Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully identifies the main features of the bar chart and makes relevant comparisons between the age groups and genders. You have provided a clear overview and supported your points with data from the chart. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in your interpretation of the data; for instance, you state that women 'dominated' in every age group except 15-24, but the data shows men actually had a higher percentage in the 35-44 age group as well. Additionally, the description of the trends could be more precise by consistently referencing the specific percentages provided in the graph to strengthen the analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group information by gender. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, and you use cohesive devices such as 'Conversely' and 'while' to link your points effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the data. To reach a higher band, ensure that referencing is always clear; for example, in the final paragraph, 'men began to involve' is slightly ambiguous and could be better linked to the previous sentence to improve the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the trends, such as 'proportion', 'bracket', 'peaked', and 'declined'. There are a few spelling errors, such as 'physicla' and 'invovled', which are minor but noticeable. Your word choice is generally appropriate for an academic report, though some phrasing is slightly repetitive. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'reported' or 'percentage' to demonstrate a wider lexical range. The vocabulary used is adequate for the task and does not impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'the proportion Australian men and women' (missing 'of') and 'men began to involve in daily physical activity' (should be 'get involved' or 'engage in'). Punctuation is generally handled well, though there are occasional missing articles. The errors present do not significantly impede the reader's understanding, but they do prevent the response from reaching the higher bands where error-free sentences are more frequent.
