Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the chart, including the age groups and gender comparisons. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the description of the trends for men is slightly confusing, and the data points for women are misidentified in the text (e.g., the text mentions a rise from 48.9% to 52.5% for the 25-34 and 45-54 groups, which does not accurately reflect the chart's progression). While the main features are selected, the reporting of data is occasionally inaccurate, which impacts the overall clarity of the summary. To improve, ensure that the data points are transcribed precisely and that trends are described with greater logical consistency.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In terms of', and 'whereas', but these are sometimes used mechanically or with grammatical errors (e.g., 'The was a reduction'). The progression of ideas is generally logical, moving from an overview to specific gender-based details. However, the lack of smooth transitions between sentences and the repetitive nature of the sentence structures limit the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used correctly would enhance the coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe the data using terms like 'percentage', 'regular physical activity', and 'age group'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'category of age' instead of 'age group' and 'ladies' which is too informal for an academic report. There is also some repetition of basic verbs like 'exercise' and 'performed'. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and avoiding informal or redundant expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with articles ('the male', 'the female'), subject-verb agreement ('the was a reduction'), and verb tense/form ('it rosed', 'slightly falls'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, although they do not completely impede communication. To improve, the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, specifically the correct use of articles and consistent verb tense usage when describing data.
