The illustration depicts the number of Australian men and women participated in regular physical activity in 2010 in terms of percentage. Overall, men of age group of 45 to 54, while the women of age 15-24 are found to be most physically active.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully identified the main features of the bar chart and provided relevant comparisons. You included data points to support your observations, which is essential for Task 1. However, the report lacks clarity in some areas. For instance, the second paragraph is difficult to follow due to confusing phrasing regarding the age groups and the data provided. You mention '42.2% and 48.9%' but it is unclear which specific age group these figures refer to, as the structure is disjointed. To improve, ensure that your comparisons are clearly linked to the specific categories and that your overview provides a more accurate summary of the overall trends rather than just listing specific groups.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'However', and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in your argument. However, the internal cohesion within the second paragraph is weak. The transition between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when you list percentages without explicitly stating which group they belong to. Improving the flow between sentences by using more varied linking words and ensuring that every pronoun or reference clearly points to its antecedent would help elevate your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to describe the data, using terms like 'proportion', 'participation', and 'regular physical activities'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'most youngest' is grammatically incorrect (it should be 'youngest'), and 'roughly equal physically active' is awkward phrasing. You rely on basic descriptors and could benefit from using more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable'. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' will also help you avoid repetition and demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder clarity. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'in 45-54 age group'), incorrect comparative forms ('most youngest'), and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'men... participated' should be 'men... participating'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the use of articles and prepositions, and ensure that your verb tenses remain consistent throughout the report.
