Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends. While it identifies some specific figures, the selection of data is somewhat disorganized, and the comparisons are often confusing or inaccurate. For instance, the statement that women have a 'record high' is vague, and the description of the data lacks the analytical depth required for a Band 6 or higher. The report does not clearly contrast the age groups or gender differences in a way that highlights the most significant features of the chart. To improve, focus on grouping data logically and identifying the most prominent trends rather than listing individual percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' feels mechanical and does not effectively link the ideas. Some sentences are disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between genders and age groups. For example, the second paragraph jumps between different age groups without a clear structure. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic phrasing. Phrases like 'massive and record high activity' and 'competed almost equals' are imprecise and do not accurately describe statistical data. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'women got keen record' and 'men are has the all time record low'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained consistent', and ensure that these terms are used in the correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('women has done', 'men are has'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack the necessary complexity to demonstrate a range of structures. For example, 'The bar chart illustrates that the information regarding...' is an incomplete thought. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and practicing the use of complex sentences to describe trends, such as using subordinating conjunctions like 'while' or 'whereas' to make comparisons.
