Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the chart and provided relevant comparisons. However, there is a significant factual error in your overview: you stated that men do more physical activity than women at any age group, but the data shows that in the 15-24 age group, women (52.8%) actually participated more than men (47.7%). Additionally, your analysis of the 15-24 age group in the first body paragraph contradicts your own overview. To improve, ensure that your summary accurately reflects the data provided and that your overview is consistent with the specific details presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and mechanical. You rely heavily on listing data points rather than using linking words to show relationships or contrasts between the groups. For example, phrases like 'the age group from 25 to 34' are repeated, making the flow feel somewhat repetitive. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of transition signals such as 'in contrast', 'conversely', or 'meanwhile' to connect your ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the necessary information about percentages and age groups. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use the phrase 'do regular physical activity' or 'do exercise'. To improve, you should incorporate a broader range of synonyms and more precise collocations. For instance, instead of repeating 'do', you could use 'engage in', 'participate in', or 'undertake'. Additionally, ensure you use the correct prepositional phrases, such as 'at the age of' rather than 'on' or 'at'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

There are several grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally hinder clarity. For example, 'The above graph illustrate' should be 'illustrates' (subject-verb agreement), and 'men do more physical activity that women' should be 'than women'. You rely mostly on simple sentence structures. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often marred by errors in word order or missing articles. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your comparisons are grammatically sound. Practising the use of complex sentences with accurate punctuation will also help you achieve a higher band score.
