Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the chart, including the highest and lowest points. However, the overview is somewhat weak; while it identifies the highest and lowest values, it lacks a clear summary of the overall trends across the age groups. Some data points are presented, but the comparison between genders could be more analytical rather than just listing figures. The description of the 25-34 age group is slightly confusing, as the text mentions a 'decline' for men and a 'rise' for women without clearly referencing the previous age group's data for context. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most significant trends, such as the general fluctuation in participation rates across age brackets.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'Moving ahead' and 'At the fleeting glance'. The transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, making the flow feel disjointed. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when comparing data points between age groups. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, logical progression that guides the reader through the data comparisons.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks precision and variety. Phrases like 'highest value' and 'least value' are repeated, and there are some awkward collocations, such as 'data has been calibrated into percentage'. The use of 'fleeting glance' is an inappropriate idiom for an academic report. While the student attempts to describe trends with words like 'decline' and 'moderately', the overall range is limited. To improve, incorporate more precise reporting verbs and nouns, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'proportion', and 'participation rate', to describe the data more professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'by age group of 35 to 44'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'women will reached'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'the of 55 to 64 men moderately rise'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with irregular spacing around percentages and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent sentence structure will significantly improve the quality.
