Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the bar chart, identifying key trends across age groups. However, the summary is somewhat hampered by inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, the overview statement is confusing, as it claims the 45-54 age group 'varies the highest' for females, which is not clearly supported by the data provided. Additionally, the final sentence is incomplete, leaving the report unfinished. While the main features are selected, the lack of precision in describing the data and the incomplete conclusion prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure all data points are accurately transcribed and the summary provides a clear, coherent overview of the trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or awkward, such as 'At the fleeting glance' and 'Moving ahead'. The progression of ideas is occasionally interrupted by confusing phrasing, particularly in the overview and the final paragraph. The abrupt ending of the text significantly impacts the overall flow and coherence. To improve, use more natural linking phrases and ensure that each paragraph transitions smoothly into the next, avoiding repetitive sentence structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of unnatural word choice and collocation errors. Phrases like 'data has been calibrated into percentage' and 'varies the highest by female' are imprecise and do not reflect standard academic English. While the student attempts to use a range of vocabulary, the lack of precision limits the effectiveness of the communication. Focus on learning common collocations used in data reporting, such as 'the proportion of' or 'a significant increase/decrease', to enhance the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include incorrect preposition usage ('by female' instead of 'for females'), missing articles, and awkward sentence construction. The final sentence is grammatically incomplete, which is a significant error. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve the accuracy of your sentences.
