Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully identified the main features of the chart and provided relevant comparisons between men and women across the age groups. You included data points to support your observations, which is essential for Task 1. However, there are some inaccuracies in your reporting; for example, you state that female participation in the 25-34 age group 'increased by 48.9%', whereas the chart shows the percentage was 48.9%. Additionally, your claim that female participation was 'double' that of men in the 35-44 age group is mathematically incorrect (52.5% is not double 39.5%). To improve, ensure you interpret the data precisely and avoid making unsupported claims about the figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'However', and 'Likewise' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical errors in sentence structure, such as 'The only expectation was the 15 to 24 age group'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the progression of ideas could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your sentences follow a logical, natural progression without repetitive structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is often repetitive and sometimes used incorrectly. For instance, you use 'participated' as a noun ('women recorded higher participated') and 'active participated' as an adjective phrase, which is grammatically incorrect. You also use 'expectation' when you likely meant 'exception'. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'percentage' and 'regular physical activity', the lack of precision in word choice limits your score. Try to focus on using the correct word forms (e.g., participation vs. participated) and expanding your range of descriptive verbs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('The below bar chart show', 'men was highest'), incorrect word order, and awkward sentence construction ('Only 39.5% were participated men active'). You rely mostly on simple sentence structures, and your attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement and ensure that your sentence structures are grammatically sound before attempting more complex forms. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms would significantly improve your score.
