Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the bar chart and provided relevant comparisons between men and women. You covered the key age groups and highlighted the trends effectively. However, the overview is slightly underdeveloped; it would be stronger if you explicitly stated the overall trend (e.g., that participation rates fluctuate across age groups for both genders). Additionally, some data points could be presented more clearly to ensure the reader can easily follow the comparisons. Overall, you have addressed all parts of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'while' and 'however', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and the use of punctuation is inconsistent, which affects the overall cohesion. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. To improve, ensure you use a wider variety of linking words and pay closer attention to sentence boundaries to avoid run-on structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the data points and trends clearly. You use terms like 'fluctuates', 'approximately equal', and 'gradually increases' appropriately. However, there is some repetition of phrases such as 'percentage of physical activity' and 'age of'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied synonyms and precise collocations to describe statistical changes. The current range is sufficient for the task but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('at the age of 15 to 24'), incorrect verb forms ('men's physically activity'), and punctuation issues (lack of commas). These errors occasionally distract the reader but do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will also help improve your score.
