The bar chart below shows the percentage of Australian men and women in different age groups who did regular physical activity in 2010.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart compares the percentages of Australian men and women in six age groups who engaged in regular physical activity in 2010.

Overall, women were more physically active than men in every age group except those aged 15 to 24. While the proportion of men generally declined during early adulthood before rising again in older age, female participation remained relatively stable at around 50%.

Among people aged 15 to 24, men recorded the highest participation rate at 52.8%, compared with 47.7% for women. However, in the 25 to 34 age group, the figure for men dropped sharply to 42.2%, whereas the percentage for women increased to 48.9%. The widest gender gap occurred among those aged 35 to 44, with 39.5% of men exercising regularly, compared with 52.5% of women.

In the older age groups, male participation gradually increased from 43.1% among 45 to 54-year-olds to 45.1% for those aged 55 to 64, before reaching 46.7% in the oldest group. Female participation remained consistently high, peaking at 53.3% among people aged 45 to 54, then declining slightly to 53.0% and 47.1% in the final two age groups.

Overall, the data indicate that women maintained higher levels of regular physical activity than men throughout most stages of adulthood.
