Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is only 98 words long. Consequently, the task is not fully addressed, and the information provided is incomplete. While an attempt was made to identify some trends, the analysis is cut off abruptly, leaving the report unfinished. To improve, you must ensure you provide a complete summary of all data points and comparisons, and you must meet the minimum length requirement to avoid a significant penalty. The current response lacks the necessary depth and breadth to reach a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is poorly structured due to its incomplete nature. While there is an attempt at an introduction and an overview, the body paragraphs are not developed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and somewhat mechanical, such as 'In contrast'. Because the text ends mid-sentence, there is no logical progression or conclusion. To improve, focus on planning your response to ensure you have enough time to cover all key features of the chart and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is somewhat repetitive and occasionally inaccurate. For example, 'physical exertion' and 'exercise' are used, but the phrasing 'amount of exercise presumes by several age groups' is unnatural and confusing. There are also spelling errors such as 'excerise' and 'lowes'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the word choices do not demonstrate the precision required for an academic report. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', and 'fluctuated'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement and awkward sentence structures, such as 'higher percentage of men is on age 15-24'. The use of prepositions is also inconsistent, for example, 'on their 45 to 54 years age'. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, work on using more complex sentence structures and ensure you proofread for basic errors in tense, preposition usage, and subject-verb agreement.
