Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the bar chart, identifying the age groups and gender differences. However, the reporting of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the statement 'the number of percentage of Australian boys were 52.8%' is awkward, and the comparison 'the age of younger girls as compared to males' is incomplete and lacks clarity. While you have attempted to summarize the information, the lack of precision in data reporting and the failure to clearly contrast the trends across all age groups prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure that every figure cited is clearly linked to the correct category and that comparisons are logically structured.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. Cohesive devices like 'Turning to' and 'Therefore' are used, but they are often placed incorrectly or do not logically connect the preceding and following sentences. For instance, the transition 'But then' in the second paragraph is informal and disrupts the flow. The referencing is also unclear at times, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between age groups. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus will enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'proportion' and 'number of percentage' (which is redundant). There are also issues with word choice, such as referring to adults as 'boys', 'girls', and 'ladies', which is inappropriate for an academic report. The phrase 'near about' is informal and imprecise. To reach a higher band, you should use more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'percentage', 'proportion', 'figure', and 'trend', and avoid informal descriptors when referring to demographic groups.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There is a limited range of grammatical structures, and the response contains frequent errors that occasionally impede meaning. Many sentences are grammatically incomplete or incorrectly constructed, such as 'the age of ladies 45 to 64 approximately similar who did daily physical activity'. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, and there is a lack of control over complex sentence structures. Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with the misuse of commas and capitalization. Focusing on basic sentence construction—ensuring every sentence has a clear subject, verb, and object—will help reduce these errors and improve clarity.
