Student answer (Band 5.0)

The bar chart demonstrates the percentage of Australian men and women in different age groups who doing physical activity on the regular basis in 2010.

As we see that in the bar chart, the 53.3 percentage of female between 45 to 54 age group doing physical activity on the daily basis means that they are more fit than the other people of different ages. Similarly, the male's of 15 to 24 age group do physical activity more than the other people. We can also see that in the bar chart, the males and females of 65 and over in age are equally doing the physical activity on the daily basis. We can say that the males and females of 65 and over are physical fit in this age group. We can say that this amount of percentage is not enough. The Australian's male and female should focus on the physical training.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the data but fails to provide a clear overview or a logical selection of key features. While it mentions specific age groups, the analysis is superficial and lacks a coherent comparison of the trends across the chart. The inclusion of personal opinions, such as 'this amount of percentage is not enough' and the suggestion that Australians 'should focus on the physical training,' is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report, which requires an objective summary of the data provided. Consequently, the response does not fully address the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response lacks logical progression. It is written as a single paragraph, which makes it difficult to follow. The use of cohesive devices is repetitive and mechanical, with phrases like 'As we see that in the bar chart' and 'We can also see that in the bar chart' appearing multiple times. The lack of clear paragraphing and the absence of a variety of linking words hinder the flow of information, resulting in a disjointed presentation of the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'doing physical activity on the regular basis' instead of 'engaging in regular physical activity' and 'physical fit' instead of 'physically fit.' The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the data with precision, and the repetition of basic phrases limits the ability to convey information effectively. To improve, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to statistics and trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the male's of 15 to 24 age group do'), incorrect verb forms ('who doing'), and awkward sentence structures. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly regarding the use of apostrophes and commas. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over basic sentence construction and reduce the frequency of errors.
