Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. The summary is underdeveloped and lacks a clear overview of the main trends. While you mention some age groups, the description is fragmented and fails to provide a comprehensive comparison of the data points provided in the chart. To improve, you must ensure you cover all parts of the task, provide a clear summary of the main features, and support your points with specific data from the chart. The current length is insufficient to demonstrate the ability to select and report main features effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks logical organization and paragraphing. The ideas are presented in a single, run-on block of text, making it difficult to follow the progression of information. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences or contrast the data between men and women. For example, the transition between age groups is abrupt and confusing. To improve, you should organize your report into clear paragraphs—an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs—and use linking words such as 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'subsequently' to guide the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'high', 'low', and 'increased'. There are also issues with word choice and accuracy, such as 'Maile' (likely a misspelling of male) and 'participant of female', which is not the correct way to refer to the population group. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. To improve, you should learn and use topic-specific vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', and 'a significant majority'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the participant of female is increased', and sentence structure, such as 'In the chart it clearly shows...'. The text lacks complex sentence structures, relying on simple, often incorrectly constructed sentences. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences that lack necessary commas or conjunctions. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and practice using a variety of sentence types to describe trends accurately.
