Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the data, but the analysis is inconsistent and contains several inaccuracies. For example, the statement that females experienced a 'considerable increased all age' is not supported by the data, as the percentages fluctuate. Furthermore, the description of the male data is confusing; the student mentions 'felling slightly to 42.2% to 39.5%', which is difficult to follow. While the response attempts to report key figures, the lack of clarity in comparing the two genders and the misinterpretation of trends prevent a higher score. The overview is present but lacks precision, failing to clearly highlight the main differences between male and female participation rates across the age groups.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Looking first at' and 'Turning to', they are often followed by sentences that lack internal coherence. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. The use of pronouns and referencing is sometimes ambiguous, making it difficult for the reader to track which data point is being discussed. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, leading to a disjointed reading experience.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'felling' instead of 'falling', and 'clear showed' instead of 'clearly shows'. The student struggles to use precise terminology for describing trends, relying on basic descriptors. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of variety and the frequent errors in word form and usage limit the score. To improve, the student should focus on learning specific collocations for describing data, such as 'a steady decline' or 'a significant fluctuation'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('female experienced', 'it increase'), incorrect tense usage, and missing articles. Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'It is clear showed that all female age group followed healthy life'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of full stops in the middle of phrases. While the meaning is usually understandable, the high frequency of errors across basic and complex structures prevents a higher band score.
