The bar chart illustrates the proportion of Australian people in various age categories who did daily physical workout in 2010.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, identifying the general trend that women were more active than men across most age groups. However, the reporting of data is sometimes confusing or inaccurate. For example, the statement 'men had the highest proportion of 52.8% initially but than men levels were down' is vague and lacks clear reference to the specific age group. Additionally, the comparison of 'middle ages' is imprecise. While the key features are identified, the lack of clarity in data presentation and the slightly disjointed reporting of figures prevent this from reaching a higher band. The overview is present but could be more clearly articulated to highlight the main trends effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Looking more into the graph', 'Additionally', and 'On the other hand'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the transition between the discussion of age groups. The logical progression is present, but the connections between ideas could be smoother. The use of cohesive devices is generally functional but lacks the flexibility required for a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing for the description of trends and data points. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'fluctuated' and 'proportion', but there are also instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'female's activity' instead of 'female activity' and 'daily physical workout' instead of 'regular physical activity'. Spelling and word choice errors, such as 'than' instead of 'then', occur throughout the text. While these do not impede communication, they limit the range and precision of the language used.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and word order (e.g., 'men's ratio was fluctuated', 'than 35 to 44 age women was highest that men'). The misuse of 'than' instead of 'then' or 'compared to' is a recurring issue that affects the clarity of comparisons. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over complex structures, keeping the score in the 5.5 to 6.0 range.
