Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While the report identifies some key features, the analysis is superficial and lacks a clear, logical structure. The overview is confusing, and the data selection is somewhat disjointed, failing to provide a cohesive summary of the trends. Several figures are presented without clear context or comparison, and the lack of sufficient length prevents a fully developed response. To improve, ensure all data points are clearly linked to the categories and provide a more structured comparison between genders across all age groups.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the transitions between sentences are often mechanical or confusing, such as 'Moving ahead' and 'At the fleeting glance'. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inaccurate, making the flow of information feel disjointed. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing the age groups. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping data by age or by gender trends rather than jumping between them.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'male in former year remains highest' and 'females was relatively 47.7 in ratio'. The student struggles with precise terminology for describing data, often relying on basic descriptors. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'specially men was 39.5'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained consistent', and ensure that nouns and verbs agree in number and context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'male individual... was', 'females was') and article usage. The range of sentence structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in complex constructions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that plural and singular nouns are used correctly. Practicing the construction of complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions would also help improve the overall grammatical range.
