Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, including the overall trend and specific data points for various age groups. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the description of the 35-44 age group for men as the 'lowest figure' is accurate, but the comparison between men and women in the 65+ category is slightly confusingly phrased. The summary of the women's data is better developed, but the conclusion regarding 'slowest ratio' is unclear and lacks precision. To improve, ensure that comparisons are explicitly stated and that the data is presented in a more logical, comparative structure rather than just listing figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'To begin with', 'Further analyzing the graph'). There are also issues with referencing; for example, 'Other groups depicts slight slowest ratio' is vague and does not clearly link back to the data. The flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed, making the progression of ideas feel a bit forced. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence clearly relates to the previous one would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'ratio', 'actions', and 'number'. Some word choices are inaccurate, such as 'percentile' (which refers to a statistical rank, not a percentage) and 'slowest ratio' (which does not make sense in this context). There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'did actions' instead of 'participated in physical activity'. To reach a higher band, you should use more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'did actions that was 52.9%' (subject-verb agreement error), 'men with the ages of 25 to 34' (awkward phrasing), and 'it can be showed' (passive voice error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage would be highly beneficial.
