Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the bar chart, including the overall trend and specific comparisons between age groups. You successfully identified the exception in the 15-24 age group and noted the convergence at the oldest age bracket. However, the analysis is slightly hampered by inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, you mention a 13% difference for the 35-44 age group, which is not clearly supported by the provided figures. Additionally, the final sentence in the conclusion introduces external information regarding life expectancy, which is irrelevant to the task and should be avoided in an Academic Task 1 report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'While', 'In conclusion', and 'Like in the age group'. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'from this age group we see', which does not clearly link to the previous paragraph. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the body paragraphs could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the main points. You use some relevant terms like 'engaged in', 'physical activity', and 'percentage'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'there is a exception' (should be 'an exception') and 'girls in their age groups' (should be 'women'). The range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic descriptive language. To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'active' and 'difference'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('all the age group shows', 'Women tends to stay') and missing articles ('in comparison to 47.7 in women'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences lacking proper structure or containing unnecessary capitalisation. These errors do not usually impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
