Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the bar chart, including the overall trend and specific comparisons between age groups. However, the data reporting is inconsistent and occasionally inaccurate. For instance, the student mentions '52.28 percent' and '47.7 percent' for the 15-24 age group, which are not clearly supported by the provided visual data. Furthermore, the analysis of the middle-aged groups is somewhat muddled, and the conclusion introduces external information ('daily exercise classes') that is not present in the chart. To improve, ensure that all data points are accurately transcribed and that the summary remains strictly focused on the information provided in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the flow of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of clear cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are frequently missing or misused, such as in the paragraph discussing the 34-44 and 45-54 age groups, where the progression feels disjointed. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'however' and 'similarly', they are often placed incorrectly or do not logically connect the preceding and following clauses. More careful use of cohesive devices would significantly improve the readability of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard phrasing, such as 'same cataloguer' instead of 'same category' and 'going to a oldest age' instead of 'in the oldest age group'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on repetitive structures to describe the data. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends and comparisons, and ensure that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'men are participate'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction. Complex sentence structures are attempted but are often faulty, leading to confusion. For example, the sentence 'Similarly going to a oldest age women are more active Morever, the men' is grammatically incoherent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
