Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends, such as the general tendency for women to participate more than men, and you have successfully selected and reported key data points to support your summary. The comparisons between age groups are accurate and well-integrated. You have covered all age categories provided in the chart, ensuring a comprehensive summary. The information is logically grouped, and the main features are highlighted without unnecessary detail, which is exactly what is required for an Academic Task 1 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs that group data by age categories. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used a variety of cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Similarly', and 'Finally' to link your sentences and paragraphs effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the information flows logically from one point to the next. There is no evidence of mechanical or repetitive phrasing, and the referencing of the data is clear throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the data, including terms like 'fluctuated', 'reversed', 'proportions', and 'corresponding figure'. The language is precise and appropriate for an academic report. While the vocabulary is accurate and functional, it could be slightly more sophisticated to reach the highest band. There are no significant spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication. The use of 'engaged in' and 'participate in' shows a good command of collocations related to the topic of physical activity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The response demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and your control of grammar is generally strong. There are a few minor slips, such as '45 to 54 group' (missing 'the') and '43.1% and for men' (an extra 'and'), as well as a minor spacing issue in '35 to44'. However, these are infrequent and do not impede the clarity of your report. You have used punctuation effectively to separate clauses and list data points, contributing to the overall readability of the text.
