Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the chart, including the peak participation rates for men and women and the general trends across age groups. You made relevant comparisons, such as noting that women are more active in the 45–54 age bracket. However, the report lacks a clear overview paragraph that synthesizes the most significant trends. Additionally, some data points are slightly inaccurate or confusingly presented, such as the claim that 52.8% was the highest for men, which requires more careful verification against the provided data. To reach a higher band, ensure your summary highlights the most striking differences and similarities more concisely.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices is limited. For example, phrases like 'As adult' and 'As summary' are slightly unnatural and do not effectively link ideas. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of information could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'conversely', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') to connect your observations more logically and reduce the reliance on simple sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, such as 'survey', 'participation', and 'decline'. However, there are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'mail' instead of 'male', 'catagories' instead of 'categories', and 'withing' instead of 'within'. These errors occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of common academic terms and using more precise collocations. Instead of saying 'doing physical activities', try using 'engaging in physical exercise' or 'participating in regular activity' to demonstrate a more sophisticated range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The bar chart represent'), missing articles (e.g., 'in age of 45 to 54'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'earlier of age life'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, pay closer attention to basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects and that prepositions are used correctly in time and age expressions.
