Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the age groups and gender comparisons. However, the reporting of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the description of the 35-44 age group is contradictory ('mostly females... 10% less than women were women'), and the data for the 55-64 age group is presented in a repetitive and unclear manner. To improve, ensure that the data points selected are accurate and clearly linked to the correct categories. The overview is present but lacks precision in summarizing the overall trends, as it relies on vague terms like 'fluctuation' without clearly identifying the specific patterns shown in the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'Moving further', 'Overall'), they are sometimes used incorrectly or do not effectively link the sentences. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when comparing the data between genders. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that the relationship between sentences is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher score. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'prer percentile' and 'intrested in physical activity than wor fel femalu'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the repetition of basic terms like 'physical activity' and 'interested' makes the writing feel somewhat monotonous. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms and ensure that technical terms are used accurately in the context of describing statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('The data is providing'), subject-verb agreement errors, and awkward sentence construction that occasionally obscures the intended meaning. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence structure and proofreading for basic errors would be beneficial.
