Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified some key features, such as the age groups and the general trend of participation, the analysis is under-developed. You have not provided a comprehensive overview or highlighted all significant comparisons across the age groups. The summary is brief and lacks the necessary detail to fully address the task requirements. To improve, ensure you cover all data points provided in the chart and provide a more thorough comparison between the genders across all age categories.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. You use some cohesive devices like 'While' and 'Similarly', but the transitions between sentences are occasionally abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect the data points more logically. The paragraphing is present but could be better utilised to separate the overview from the specific data analysis.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You rely heavily on phrases like 'percentage of' and 'can be seen'. There is little attempt to use less common lexical items or precise collocations related to data description. For example, instead of saying 'the number of female has been increased', it would be more accurate to use 'participation rates among women showed an upward trend'. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and nouns will help you achieve a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'The graph illustrate' (subject-verb agreement) and 'at the age 15 to 24' (preposition usage). The sentence structures are relatively simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequent errors in basic grammar and punctuation indicate a need for more careful proofreading. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and using a wider range of complex structures, such as subordinate clauses, to describe the trends more accurately.
