Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, but the analysis is incomplete as the text cuts off abruptly before finishing the description of the female data. While you successfully identify some key trends, such as the peak for men in the youngest age group and the general fluctuations, the lack of a concluding summary and the incomplete reporting of the female data prevent a full overview. To improve, ensure you provide a clear comparison between genders and complete the description of all data points provided in the chart. The overview is present but could be more precise regarding the specific trends observed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'Moreover', but some transitions feel mechanical or are used incorrectly, such as 'but 35 to 45 age group recorded the lowest figure'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the abrupt ending significantly impacts the overall coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. You use basic terms like 'lowest figure' and 'proportion' repeatedly. There are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'male ratio' instead of 'percentage of men' and 'youngster whose age was between' which is slightly unnatural. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase', 'decrease', and 'proportion', and ensure that terms are used in their correct grammatical context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the male ratio was highest in the beginning of the age group' (should be 'youngest age group') and '42.2% men took part which age was 25 to 34' (awkward phrasing). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band score.
