Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the bar chart and made relevant comparisons between genders and age groups. You highlighted the contrast between the youngest and oldest age brackets effectively. However, the response contains some inaccuracies in data interpretation; for instance, you state that female participation rose to 53% across all age groups from 25 to 64, whereas the chart shows distinct fluctuations for each bracket. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are cited with greater precision and that you avoid over-generalizing trends that are not fully supported by the provided figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Regarding', 'Turning to', and 'In contrast'. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. Some sentences, particularly in the second paragraph, lack clear logical progression, making the relationship between ideas feel slightly disjointed. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuating', 'declining', and 'ratio'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'on highest category' instead of 'in the highest category' and 'role is reverse' instead of 'the trend is reversed'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word formation, such as 'daily bases' instead of 'daily basis'. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that collocations are used accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'age group... who does' instead of 'who do'), missing articles, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'the female of the same age group is at'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with parentheses and spacing. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic agreement and article usage.
