Student answer (Band 6.5)
The bar chart compares the propertions of Australian men and women across six different age categories who participated in regular physical activity in the year 2010.
Overall, it is clear that women generally had higher rates of physicial activity than me in most age groups, with the sole exeption of the youngest demographic. Additionally, while the participation rate for men declined and then recovered over time, the tren for women showed a steadier upward movement before dropping slightly in the oldest bracket.
At the feeling glanc, looking first at the male demographic, those aged 15 to 24 were the most active, at 52.8%. However, this figure dropped considerably in the subseqent age groups, reaching a low of 39.5% among men aged 35 to 44 . From this point onward, the percentage of active men climbed steadily, rising to 45.1% in the 55 to 64 bracket and reaching 46.7% for those aged 65.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response provides a clear overview of the main trends and selects relevant data points to support the summary. You successfully identified the general trend of women being more active and highlighted the specific fluctuations in the male demographic. However, the response is incomplete as it only covers the male data in the final paragraph and fails to describe the female data in detail or provide a comparative analysis for the remaining age groups. To reach a higher band, ensure that all groups mentioned in the overview are fully supported by data in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Additionally', and 'However' are used effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is appropriate, and there is a clear progression of ideas. To improve, ensure that the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is smoother and that the structure remains balanced throughout the entire response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'demographic', 'subsequent', and 'participation rate'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'propertions' (proportions), 'physicial' (physical), 'me' (men), 'exeption' (exception), 'tren' (trend), and 'glanc' (glance). These errors are noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing. Focusing on proofreading for common spelling mistakes will significantly improve your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'At the feeling glanc' (likely meant 'At a first glance') and minor punctuation issues. The sentence structures are generally accurate, but the frequency of minor errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy in spelling and word form will help improve your performance.
