Student answer (Band 6.0)

The following graph demonstrates the total proportion of Australian men and women in different age groups who did their daily physical exercise in the year 2010.

Overall, the chart exhibits that mostly regular physical exercises were performed by men, except for age 15 to 24 where women overtakes men in terms of fitness.

The most amount of regular physical activities of women were in age 15 to 24 crossing men and holding a percentage of 52.8%. Whereas, in the year 25-34 men dominates women in terms of physicality and reach 48.9% while women remained at 42.2%. But in the age group of (35-44) men totally outcompete women holding a position of 52.5% leaving women behind at 39.5%. As the age group of 45 to 54 has the same case for men, it minimally increases to 53.3% while women section was at 43.1%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully identified the main features of the graph and provided relevant comparisons between genders across age groups. You covered all age categories and highlighted the key trends, such as the crossover in the 15-24 age group and the general dominance of men in physical activity. To reach a higher band, ensure your overview is more comprehensive; currently, it only mentions the general trend. Including a more detailed summary of the overall patterns, such as the fact that participation rates generally fluctuate rather than showing a linear trend, would strengthen your response. The data points are generally accurate and support your descriptions well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organised, with clear paragraphing that separates the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'moreover', and 'however' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the phrase 'has the same case for men' is a bit repetitive and lacks precision. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the same case') is clearer would enhance the overall cohesion of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly, using terms like 'proportion', 'surges', and 'substantially'. However, there are some instances of awkward word choice and collocation, such as 'most amount of regular physical activities' (should be 'highest percentage') and 'women section' (should be 'the female group'). You also use 'physicality' in a context that is slightly imprecise. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology for describing statistical data to move toward a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('women overtakes', 'men dominates', 'men remains') and minor punctuation errors, including unnecessary parentheses. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and ensure that your sentence structures are grammatically sound. Focusing on proofreading for these small, consistent errors will significantly improve your accuracy.
