Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, but it lacks a clear overview. An effective summary should highlight the overall trends, such as the fact that women generally participated in more physical activity than men in most age groups, with the exception of the 15-24 age bracket. Instead, the response lists data points in a repetitive manner without synthesising the information. The data is generally accurate, but the lack of a concluding summary or a clear introductory overview prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is mechanical. The writer relies heavily on repetitive sentence structures such as 'in age of X, Y have high percentage which is Z'. There is a lack of varied cohesive devices to link the comparisons smoothly. While the information is presented in a logical order, the transitions between sentences feel forced and repetitive, which limits the flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. The writer frequently uses 'high percentage', 'ratio', and 'rate' interchangeably, often incorrectly. For example, 'womens have high ratio' is grammatically awkward and imprecise. There is little attempt to use a range of vocabulary to describe trends or comparisons (e.g., 'surpassed', 'marginally higher', 'a significant proportion'). The spelling of 'womens' and 'mens' is incorrect; the plural forms should be 'women' and 'men'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly with pluralisation ('womens', 'mens') and subject-verb agreement ('The given chart show', 'womens have high ratio'). There is a lack of complex sentence structures; most sentences are simple or rely on 'which is' clauses. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect usage of commas. These errors are frequent and occasionally make the text difficult to read, though the meaning remains generally clear.
