Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 89 words. This significantly impacts the ability to fully address the task. While the student attempts to identify some trends, the analysis is extremely brief and lacks a comprehensive overview of the data provided in the chart. Key features are not adequately reported, and the comparison is limited to a single specific data point rather than a broader summary of the trends across all age groups. To improve, the student must provide a more detailed description of the data, ensuring all age categories are covered and the main trends are clearly highlighted.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into short paragraphs, but the lack of sufficient content makes it difficult to assess the logical progression of ideas. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Overall' and 'In contrast', but the transitions are somewhat mechanical. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the brevity of the text prevents the development of a coherent argument or a structured report. To improve, the student should focus on grouping data logically and using a wider range of linking words to connect sentences and ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains errors that affect clarity, such as 'engeneratic' (likely meant 'energetic') and 'physical work' (which is imprecise in the context of physical activity). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate a higher level of proficiency. The student relies on basic phrasing, and the word choice is often inaccurate or awkward. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise terminology related to data description and physical activity, such as 'participation rates', 'sedentary', or 'age-specific trends'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that impede communication. Examples include 'females were most active physically then males' (should be 'than'), 'females were accounted for' (incorrect passive voice usage), and 'as compare male' (incorrect prepositional phrase). The sentence structures are simple and repetitive, with little evidence of complex sentence construction. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, the student needs to focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and the development of more complex sentence structures to demonstrate grammatical control.
