Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the data but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features. The information is presented in a fragmented way, and there are significant inaccuracies in the interpretation of the data (e.g., stating that men do more workout than females in all age groups, which contradicts the provided chart). The lack of specific data points or percentages makes the summary vague and ineffective. To improve, you must identify the key trends and support them with specific figures from the chart, ensuring that your comparisons are factually accurate based on the visual evidence provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas within the paragraphs are disjointed and repetitive. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and often incorrect manner, such as the repetitive use of 'In the age of' and 'In meanwhile'. The progression of ideas is unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the age groups. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus, such as grouping data by gender or by age trends.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. Phrases like 'middle era of life', 'hustle', and 'workout daily' are informal or imprecise. There is a lack of variety in the language used to describe trends, and the repetition of basic words hinders the quality of the response. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuate', 'decline', and 'significant', while avoiding colloquialisms like 'hustle' or 'workout'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('The chart that shown', 'Graph shows'), incorrect word order, and missing articles. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often marred by errors, such as 'In the age of 65 and onward both do less exercise.' To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and the appropriate use of articles, before attempting more complex structures.
