Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement. Because the text is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence, the overview is underdeveloped, and the data reporting is fragmented. While you identified some key features, such as the 15-24 and 45-54 age groups, the analysis is incomplete and lacks a comprehensive summary of the trends across all six age groups. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full overview and cover all data points presented in the chart, while ensuring the response reaches the required length to allow for a full development of ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response shows some attempt at logical organization by grouping information by age, but the abrupt ending makes it difficult to assess the overall progression. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical way, such as 'Looking first at' and 'Meanwhile'. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the flow. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully developed within each paragraph and that you use a wider range of cohesive devices to link your sentences and paragraphs more naturally. The lack of a conclusion or a completed final section hinders the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher levels. You used terms like 'larger figures' and 'physically active', which are appropriate but repetitive. There are also spelling errors such as 'figrures' and 'incrre' (incomplete word). To improve, try to use more varied synonyms for 'percentage' and 'active', and ensure you check your spelling. Incorporating more sophisticated vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', or 'a significant majority', would help demonstrate a wider lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'compares percentage of australian men' is missing articles, and 'female at 47.7 percent' lacks a verb. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and word order, such as 'in which females are more active... than a male'. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are frequent. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and pay closer attention to the use of articles and prepositions.
