Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear overview or meaningful comparison of the data. The description of the data is largely mechanical and repetitive, listing figures without identifying key trends or significant differences between genders and age groups. Furthermore, there is a significant factual error in the data reporting (e.g., stating 242.2 for the 25-34 age group), which indicates a failure to accurately interpret the provided chart. The summary lacks a clear synthesis of the information, making it difficult for the reader to understand the main features of the physical activity patterns in 2010.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The second paragraph is particularly confusing, using vague and non-standard terminology like 'maximum half century' and 'two quarter distance' to describe age groups or percentages. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, leading to a disjointed reading experience. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt, and the lack of clear signposting makes the overall structure feel mechanical and difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. The student uses non-standard terms such as 'physical undertaking' instead of 'physical activity', and 'gents' and 'ladies' instead of 'men' and 'women'. There is also significant repetition of phrases like 'The percentage of...'. The misuse of terminology, such as 'two quarter distance' to describe data points, indicates a lack of precision. To improve, the student needs to focus on using accurate academic vocabulary and avoiding informal or invented phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The percentage of man... are 52.8'), incorrect pluralization (e.g., 'olders adult'), and awkward sentence construction. The range of structures is very limited, relying almost exclusively on simple sentences with repetitive patterns. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in the final paragraph. While the meaning is generally decipherable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence structure prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
