Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the data and provided relevant comparisons. You covered all age groups and genders, and the overview clearly highlights the key trends. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you mention 'Age group 33 to 54 years' which does not exist in the chart, and the data points for the 25-34 and 45-54 groups for women appear to be misread or mislabeled in your summary. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are transcribed with absolute precision and that labels are consistent with the provided prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Regarding the Australian men' and 'By comparism' to transition between ideas. However, the term 'By comparism' is non-standard; 'In comparison' or 'Conversely' would be more appropriate. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the data for men and women, which helps the reader follow the information. The progression of ideas is generally clear, though the repetitive sentence structure in the body paragraphs makes the flow feel slightly mechanical at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accounted for', 'engaged in', and 'proportion'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'comparism' instead of 'comparison' and 'higest' instead of 'highest'. Additionally, the repetition of phrases like 'accounted for' and 'made up' limits your lexical flexibility. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of reporting verbs and nouns, such as 'constituted', 'represented', 'a significant share', or 'the peak figure', to avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'the the age group' (repetition) and 'Age group 25 to 34 and 45 to 54 was only' (subject-verb agreement error, as the subject is plural). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structures are somewhat formulaic. To achieve a higher band, focus on reducing minor errors and varying your sentence construction to include more sophisticated subordinate clauses.
