Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task well. You have identified the main features, such as the overall trend of women being more active and the specific age-group comparisons. The data is used effectively to support your points, and the overview is clear. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are described with complete accuracy; for instance, the description of the 15-24 age group for men is clear, but ensure that comparisons between genders are consistently highlighted throughout the report. You have successfully selected and reported the main features as required by the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a summary. You use cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'followed by', and 'in contrast' to link ideas. However, the paragraphing could be improved for better flow; the transition between the second and third body paragraphs is slightly abrupt. Additionally, some cohesive devices are used in a repetitive manner. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph focuses on a distinct trend or comparison would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'percentage', and 'regular physical activity'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'working out' (which is informal for an academic report) and 'more physical active' (should be 'more physically active'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that adjectives and adverbs are used correctly. The current range is sufficient to convey your meaning, but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the amongst all the age groups' (unnecessary 'the'), 'had a physical activity were decreasing' (subject-verb agreement), and 'started to be more active then' (should be 'than'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips throughout. To achieve a higher score, focus on eliminating these small errors and increasing the variety of complex sentence structures, ensuring that your subject-verb agreement is consistently accurate.
