Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the age groups and the gender comparison. However, the overview is somewhat confusingly phrased, particularly the claim that men worked out the most in the 15-24 age group while women were 'dramatically high' in all others, which is not entirely supported by the data. The reporting of figures is generally accurate, but the analysis lacks a cohesive summary of the trends. To improve, ensure the overview clearly highlights the most significant differences and trends rather than listing individual data points, which is better suited for the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'In between' and 'While'. The transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, and the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing (e.g., 'In 25 to 34 age group was 42.2 %'). Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more fluid to better connect the comparisons between men and women.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'worked out', 'doing physical activity', and 'worked at same leveled' are used repeatedly, which restricts the range. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'ratio' used instead of 'percentage' or 'proportion', and 'jumped with' which is not standard usage. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of synonyms for 'increase', 'decrease', and 'percentage', and focus on using more precise academic terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'men were worked out', 'female were doing'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty (e.g., 'In 25 to 34 age group was 42.2 % in physical activity'). To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that prepositions are used correctly.
