Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student addresses the task by summarizing the main features of the bar chart and making some comparisons between gender and age groups. However, the response does not provide a clear overview of all significant trends. For instance, while the claim that female participation rates are generally higher is mentioned, more specific comparisons and data points could have been explored for clarity. The organization of details could be improved to enhance the overall comprehension of the data presented. Overall, the task achievement is evident but lacks depth. **Score: 5**

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The coherence and cohesion in this response are weak. Transitions between sentences and points are unclear, such as "After analyzing that the bar chart" and "Furthermore, at the age of 45 to 54..." which disrupt the flow. Using linking words or phrases more effectively would help connect ideas and ensure the narrative is easier to follow. Paragraphing is inconsistent, and the discrepancies in sentence structure diminish the logical progression of the descriptions.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical resource demonstrates some appropriate vocabulary related to the topic, but there are several inaccuracies, such as "percentum" instead of "percentage" and "male and female in different activity" rather than "male and female engaging in physical activity." Additionally, the use of phrases like "at 52 to 47%" lacks clarity; it should specify whether it refers to men or women. More varied vocabulary and accurate terms would strengthen the response considerably.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

Grammatical errors are evident throughout the response, impacting clarity. For example, "illustrate the proportion of Australian male and female" should read "Australian males and females." Additionally, issues with verb forms, such as "the chart show" instead of "the chart shows," and subject-verb agreement mistakes, weaken the overall grammatical accuracy. Some sentences are also poorly constructed, affecting readability. Overall, there is a need for improved grammatical structure and accuracy.

Overall feedback

Your response provides a good start in addressing the task by summarizing the bar chart and drawing attention to key features. However, you should focus on presenting a clearer overview of the data by better structuring your response and ensuring that comparisons between males and females are substantiated with specific figures. Try to use linking phrases to improve coherence and help your reader follow your argument more logically. Furthermore, pay attention to consistent grammatical structures and spelling to enhance clarity and professionalism in your writing. Consider expanding your vocabulary with more precise terms. Practicing these areas can help boost your writing score significantly.
