The bar chart illustrates the proportion of men and women from different age groups in Australia who engaged in regular physical activities in 2010.
Overall, women had higher participation rates than men in almost all age groups, with the exception of those aged 15–24.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response effectively addresses the task by identifying the main features and providing relevant comparisons. You have successfully highlighted the overall trend of female participation and contrasted it with the male-dominated 15–24 age group. The data is accurately reported, and the inclusion of specific percentages, such as '52.8%' and '53.3%', demonstrates a good grasp of the information. To reach a higher band, ensure that you provide a more comprehensive overview in the introduction or summary paragraph, perhaps by noting the general range of participation across all groups, which would further strengthen the analytical aspect of your report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You have used cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Firstly', 'Conversely', and 'Similarly', to guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different age cohorts, which helps in maintaining a clear structure. The referencing is consistent, and the flow between sentences is smooth. To improve further, you could experiment with more varied cohesive links to avoid relying on standard transition words, which would make the writing feel more sophisticated and natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly and precisely. Terms such as 'proportion', 'engaged', 'cohort', and 'exceeded' are used accurately in the context of describing data. The use of 'percentage points' is a good example of precise terminology. While the vocabulary is appropriate and accurate, it is somewhat functional. To achieve a higher band, you could incorporate more varied synonyms for 'higher' or 'led' (e.g., 'outstripped', 'surpassed') and use more sophisticated collocations to describe the trends in the bar chart.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response demonstrates a good control of grammatical structures. You have successfully used a mix of simple and complex sentences, such as 'The bar chart illustrates the proportion of men and women... who engaged in regular physical activities'. Punctuation is generally accurate, and there are no significant errors that impede communication. The use of comparative structures is consistent and error-free. To move into the higher bands, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence forms, such as passive voice constructions or participle clauses, to demonstrate greater flexibility in your grammatical range.
