The bar chart displays the percentage of Australian men and women in different age groups who did regular physical activity in 2010.
The bar chart shows that more than 50% of men between the ages of 15 and 24 did regular physical activity. This figure slowly decreases as men grow older and reaches 39.5% at ages of 35 to 44. Then there is a steady increase and the figure reaches 46.7% by the age of 65 and over. Younger women tend to do less workout compared to older women. 47.7% of women of ages 25 to 34 do regular physical activity. This figure reaches 53.3% by the age of 45 and then slowly reduces to 47.1 by the age of 65.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview of the data. You have successfully identified the main trends and made relevant comparisons between genders and age groups. However, the report is somewhat repetitive; you describe the data for men and women in separate paragraphs and then repeat much of this information in subsequent paragraphs. To improve, aim to synthesize the data more effectively by grouping trends rather than listing figures chronologically or by category in a way that leads to redundancy. The inclusion of specific data points is accurate and supports the main features well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph has a central focus, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices such as 'this figure,' 'however,' and 'this is followed by,' but the flow is occasionally hindered by the repetitive structure of the sentences. The transition between the second and third paragraphs is weak because the information is essentially restated. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence adds new information rather than repeating previously stated facts.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'steep decline,' 'steady increase,' and 'indulge in.' There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'invest in' which is not the most natural collocation for physical activity. Additionally, there is a spelling error ('comapred') and some repetition of basic verbs. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuate,' 'peak,' or 'marginal,' and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate for a formal report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, and your meaning is generally clear throughout the response. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'upto' (should be two words: 'up to'), 'ages of 35 to 44' (should be 'the ages of 35 to 44'), and inconsistent use of articles. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions when describing data ranges. Ensure that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly to enhance clarity.
