Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the chart and provided relevant comparisons between the genders and age groups. The overview clearly highlights the general trend that women are more active than men in most age categories. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting; for example, you state that male participation 'sharply declined' to 39.5% in the 35-44 age group, but the chart shows this group is actually higher than the 25-34 group. Additionally, the phrasing 'before 42.2% at 25-34' is confusing. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are sequenced logically and described with greater precision.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on men and women respectively. This structure is effective. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast' and 'Overall' to guide the reader. However, the flow within the paragraphs is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'before 42.2% at 25-34 age group', which makes the progression of data difficult to follow. Improving the use of linking phrases and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is explicit would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'participation', 'declined', 'gradually increased', and 'peaked'. There are some errors in word choice and form, such as 'the female' (should be 'females' or 'women') and 'youngsters of 15-24' (which is slightly informal). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Focusing on more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'the female is more active then men' (should be 'than'), 'participation percentage are found' (subject-verb agreement error), and '45-54 aged group' (should be '45-54 age group'). Additionally, there are issues with punctuation and capitalization, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit your score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent sentence structure will be beneficial.
