Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the age groups and gender comparisons. However, the overview is confusing and contains inaccurate claims, such as stating that women were higher in all age groups, which contradicts the data for the 15-24 and 35-44 age brackets. The reporting of figures is sometimes inconsistent or difficult to follow, particularly in the description of the 35-44 and 45-54 age groups. While the task is addressed, the lack of clarity in the overview and the misinterpretation of some data points limit the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First of all' and 'In the same period', but they are often applied mechanically or incorrectly. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to track which age group or gender is being discussed. The progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of clear sentence structure, which makes the overall argument difficult to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'highest', 'lowest', and 'proportion'. There are several spelling errors, such as 'Ovaral' (Overall), 'exercige' (exercise), and 'mans' (men). Word choice is often imprecise, such as 'good proportion was physical activities' instead of 'a high proportion participated in physical activities'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with the precision required for an Academic Task 1 response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the graph show man'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'While lowest proportion at age group around 35 to 44 years at nearly by 39.5%.' The control over complex structures is weak, and the high frequency of errors makes the text difficult to read. The punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of decimals and commas.
