The bar chart below shows the percentage of Australian men and women in different age groups who did regular physical activity in 2010.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The data compares the proportion of Australian men and women in several age groups actively participating on physical exercise in 2010.

At a glance, it is clear that the women were by far the largest contributor in most of the different age groups, while the youngest and the oldest groups showed notable exception.

Looking at the table in detail, men contribute 52.8% of the total in the age group between 15 to 24. However, men and women over 64 years of old showed nearly identical figure, 46.7% and 47.1% of the total for the respected gender groups.

Regarding the female domination, upon a close inspection, other age groups shared exact same behavior. Almost 49% women were actively participating in the physical activities under the age group of 25 to 34, rest of were men. In the age groups of 35 to 44, 45 to 54, and 55 to 64, women hold 52.5%, 53.3%, and 53% of total, respectively.
