Student answer (Band 5.5)
The bar graph rendered the proportion of Australian men and women who were engaged in physical activities regularly in 2010. The graph illustrates this information according to the different age group.
As looking in graph we can observe that specific type of colors are filled to describe men and women. Firstly, we can observe that the age group from 15 to 24 of men are 52.8 percent whereas women have 47.7 percent. Men of age group 25 to 34 are only 42.2 percent and women are 48.9 percent. Men of age group 35 to 44 are 39.5 and women are 52.5 percent. We can see that men are less engaged as moving forward higher age groups.
On the other hand, men of age 45 to 54 are only 43.1 and women are 53.3 percent. Men under age group of 55 to 64 are 45.1 and women are 53 percent. Men above the 65 are 46.7 and women are 47.1. It is observable from the data that last age group are way from similar engaged then others.
Furthermore, we can say that men are very less participated as moving to higher age group where as women tends to move higher. hence, teenagers are more likely to be participated in the activity then any other age groups.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, including the age groups and gender comparisons. However, the analysis is largely a list of data points rather than a synthesis of trends. For example, the student lists percentages for each age group sequentially without grouping them effectively to highlight the overall trends. While the overview mentions that men are less engaged as they age, this is not fully supported by the data provided, as the figures for men actually fluctuate. The summary lacks a clear, high-level comparison between the genders across the board, which is necessary for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the phrase 'As looking in graph' or 'way from similar engaged then others'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between sentences feels disjointed. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'Firstly' and 'On the other hand', the flow of information is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and awkward phrasing, which makes the overall argument difficult to follow at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic descriptors like 'engaged' and 'participated'. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'men are very less participated' and 'way from similar engaged'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. The student struggles to use academic terminology appropriate for describing statistical data, often resulting in ungrammatical phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('women tends to move higher'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction ('men of age group 35 to 44 are 39.5 and women are 52.5 percent'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar structures occasionally impedes the clarity of the message. The student needs to focus on sentence variety and ensuring that verbs and subjects agree correctly.
