Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have attempted to report on the data, the summary is incomplete and lacks a clear overview of the main trends. The description of the data is often confusing, with inaccurate reporting of figures and age groups (e.g., '15 to 16 age group' is not present in the chart). You have identified some comparisons, but the lack of clarity and the failure to reach the required length prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you provide a clear, concise overview and accurately transcribe data points without grammatical interference.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often misused, such as 'Firstly' and 'secondly' which do not effectively link the data points. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between men and women across the age groups. The sentences are disjointed, and the lack of clear transitions between the different age categories hinders the overall flow of the report. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic structures like 'its shows' and 'by men's', which are grammatically incorrect and lexically simplistic. There is little evidence of a range of vocabulary suitable for describing statistical data. Words like 'glance' are used inappropriately in this context. To improve, you should learn specific vocabulary for describing trends and comparisons, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained constant', 'a significant proportion', or 'the majority'. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and nouns will help you convey information more precisely and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, incorrect use of possessives (e.g., 'men's' instead of 'men'), and sentence fragments. The structure of your sentences is often awkward, making the data difficult to interpret. For example, 'it is shows 48.9' is grammatically incorrect. You should focus on mastering basic sentence structures, specifically subject-verb-object patterns, and avoid over-complicating sentences until you have achieved greater accuracy. Proofreading for basic errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms is essential for improvement.
