Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers the main features of the chart well, identifying key trends and making relevant comparisons between genders and age groups. You successfully highlighted the highest and lowest participation rates. However, the report could be improved by providing a more comprehensive overview of the data. For instance, while you mention the 15-24 and 65+ groups, you could have more clearly contrasted the general trend of female participation being higher in middle age versus male participation peaking in the youngest bracket. The inclusion of specific data points is accurate and supports your summary effectively, meeting the requirements for a Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by age categories. The progression of ideas is generally smooth. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'whereas' and 'however', to link ideas. However, the paragraphing is slightly uneven, and some transitions between sentences feel a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus and that referencing (e.g., 'these activities') is always precise to avoid any ambiguity. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'participating', 'recorded', and 'preference'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'on gender basis' (should be 'by gender') and 'boys' (when referring to the 15-24 age group, 'males' is more appropriate in an academic context). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the phrasing is occasionally slightly unnatural. Expanding your range of reporting verbs and adverbs would help elevate the precision of your descriptions and move you into a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('in the age 35 to 44') and awkward phrasing ('is the highest percentage recorded in all age groups' lacks a clear subject). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some spacing issues around commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
