Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart and makes relevant comparisons. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive and lacks a clear overview of the general trends. For instance, stating 'the main reason for this increase is that men are highly active when they are young' is an attempt at interpretation, which is not required for this task and is not supported by the data provided. The report would be stronger if it focused more on identifying the overall patterns, such as the general decline in activity for men compared to the relative stability for women across age groups.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing. While some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Whereas' are used, the transition between sentences is sometimes mechanical. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'the percentage of men fell in 39.5 and 43.1', where the relationship between the age groups and the figures is confusingly expressed. Improved paragraphing and more precise linking of data points would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There is repetitive use of basic phrases like 'percentage of' and 'doing regular physical activities'. Some word choices are unnatural, such as 'aged with 55 to 64' and 'the figure of men and women... are nearly close to'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more varied reporting verbs and nouns, and ensure collocations are accurate, such as using 'participation rates' instead of just 'percentage'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'women who's % is 47.7' (incorrect use of possessive 'who's' instead of 'whose' or 'the percentage of whom is'), 'the women doing regular physical activities having number 48.8%' (missing verb 'had' or 'recorded'), and 'the age of 65 and over are nearly close to'. These errors in subject-verb agreement and sentence construction are noticeable throughout the text.
