Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified the main trend—that women generally participated in more physical activity than men—the data reporting is incomplete. You have not covered all age groups shown in the chart, and the lack of sufficient detail means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, ensure you include all data categories and provide a more comprehensive summary that highlights the key differences and similarities across all age brackets, rather than just selecting a few.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by the lack of sufficient content. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In terms of' and 'In contract of' (which should be 'In contrast to'), but they are sometimes used incorrectly or mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two groups. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that flows logically from the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'gained immense proportion' and 'they was dominating' are not natural or accurate in this context. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'In contract of', which should be 'In contrast to'. To achieve a higher band score, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary for describing trends and data, such as 'a higher percentage', 'a significant majority', or 'a downward trend'. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and adverbs will help you convey information more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('they was dominating'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence structures ('the Australian men fell short through out the year in all group of ages'). The range of sentence structures is limited, and there is a lack of complex sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and sentence construction. Proofreading for common errors like pluralisation ('group of ages' should be 'age groups') will also help improve your accuracy.
