Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the chart, identifying the trends for different age groups and making comparisons between genders. However, the overview is somewhat weak and lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends. While the data is generally accurate, the presentation is cluttered with excessive numbers, which makes it difficult to follow the main points. To improve, focus on grouping the data more effectively rather than listing every single percentage point, and ensure the overview highlights the most striking differences, such as the consistent female lead in middle age groups versus the male lead in the youngest category.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader navigate the information. However, the flow between sentences is often mechanical and repetitive. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inaccurate, such as the awkward transition 'In mens are' or the repetitive use of 'in age of'. The logical progression is hindered by the way data is presented, as the sentences feel like a list of statistics rather than a cohesive analysis. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'conversely', 'in contrast', 'meanwhile') would significantly enhance the readability and logical flow of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word-choice errors, such as 'the female are the highest percentage' (should be 'females had the highest participation rate') and 'slightly increased in female are high proportion'. The student relies heavily on simple, repetitive structures to describe the data. To reach a higher band, the student should use a wider range of synonyms for 'increase', 'proportion', and 'participation', and focus on using more natural collocations when describing statistical trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('the female are', 'Mens are age group'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of basic errors in grammar and syntax prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence structure and proofreading for basic agreement errors would be beneficial.
