IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The bar chart below shows the percentage of Australian men and women in different age groups who did regular physical activity in 2010.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The bar graph given provides the information about men and women of Australia in 2010 who did regular physical activity and it is divided into different age categories.
It is observed that in most of the age groups women seem to be doing more physical activity than men. Percentage of females doing physical activity first increases and then decreases, vice versa for males.
Only one age group (15 to 24) has more males working out or rather consistently working out than females, all other group from 25 and above, the females are leading in numbers. The largest difference between both the groups is observed in the age group 35 to 44 years, percentage of females is 52.5 where as males is 39.5 giving a 13 percent difference.
The graph for females looks like a downward curve peaking at age group 45 to 54 with 53.3 percent. In earlier age group 15 to 24 the percentage observed is 47.7 which is very much close to the oldest age group of 65 and over, 47.1 percentage.
Contrastingly, the graph for percentage of makes looks like a upward curve bottomed out at age group of 35 to 44 years with 39.5 percentage. The only age group of males where more than 50% of them were doing physical activity is 15 to 24 years at 52.8 percent, and the oldest group barely coping up with the females percentage at 46.7 percent with a 0.4% difference.
